Comparing T2's Matcha Mate Bundle and Tea Newbie Bundle to help you choose the right starter kit based on your tea preferences and brewing style.
Quick answer
Choose the Matcha Mate Bundle if you want a fuss-free matcha experience with an integrated whisk flask. Pick the Tea Newbie Bundle if you prefer loose leaf tea and want a versatile teamaker that works with any blend.
What each bundle includes and why it matters
The Matcha Mate Bundle is built around matcha: it comes with a T2 Matcha Flask (with a removable stainless steel whisk) and a 30g tin of matcha powder. The flask keeps tea warm for up to six hours, so you can sip throughout the morning without reheating.
The Tea Newbie Bundle focuses on loose leaf tea. It includes a BPA-free teamaker with a bottom-pour mechanism and a selection of premium blends. The teamaker lets you control brew time precisely—just add hot water and leaves to the top, then place it on your cup when ready.
The trade-off: dedicated matcha tool vs all-purpose brewer
The Matcha Mate Bundle is purpose-built for matcha. You get a whisk built into the flask, so you don't need extra tools. But it only works with matcha—you cannot brew loose leaf tea in it.
The Tea Newbie Bundle gives you more flexibility. The teamaker handles any loose leaf tea, from black to herbal, and the bottom-pour design makes cleanup simple. However, it won't help you make matcha at all.
How to decide between the two starter kits
- Matcha Mate Bundle: Best if you already know you love matcha or want a no-fuss way to try it. The built-in whisk and insulated flask eliminate the traditional matcha tools and cleanup.
- Tea Newbie Bundle: Best if you want to explore different loose leaf teas. The teamaker works with any blend, and the bottom-pour mechanism makes it easy to brew a perfect cup every time.
- What about the price difference?: Both bundles offer savings over buying items separately. The Matcha Mate Bundle is priced at $45.60 (catalog value $76.00), while the Tea Newbie Bundle is $42.09 (catalog value $69.00). The Matcha Mate Bundle has a higher absolute discount, but the Tea Newbie Bundle costs less upfront.
